All things Italian hit Brooklands once again this year at the Auto Italia event – Italian Car Day on May 4th 2013 and our friends over at Performance Direct were there to soak up the action!
Admirers were keen to walk the stands and displays especially with the new Ferrari F12 showing it’s wheels.
Gates opened at 8.30am and the day was jam packed with demos, track drivers, museum displays and much more! With family tickets priced at £32, there was something for everyone over the weekend.
The infamous hill climb once again proved its testing power with some drivers misjudging the climb including one unfortunate Ferrari 360!

At just one year older than the beloved Ferrari F40, the Italian Car Day at Brooklands sponsored by Auto Italia has just celebrated it’s 26th birthday and is now officially old enough to be considered a classic. Much like the F40, the event at Brooklands, the biggest on their calendar, increases in popularity every year. Although fortunately the tickets prices for the event haven’t gone up in price at the same rate as the F40.
Performance Direct wanted to do their bit to help celebrate this fantastic event and the F40 reaching the quarter-century landmark so ran a number of competitions. These included a competition to win free tickets for the event via Facebook as well as a chance to win a passenger ride in a Lamborghini Aventador on the day. Alongside the Aventador competition we thought it’d be nice to give something back to the many under 18′s attending the show so we also offered a competition to go up the famous hill at Brooklands in a Ferrari 458 Italia with a professional driver at the wheel. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

This year the Ferrari F40 celebrates it’s 25th birthday which, in some people’s eyes, now categorises the car as an official classic. Where better to celebrate than at the Italian Car Day at Brooklands Museum sponsored by Auto Italia which is just one year older than the car itself.
This year’s event was the biggest ever and Performance Direct’s Motor-Vision team were there to help the event go with a bang. To make sure that we were doing our bit, a range of motoring competitions were run so you could win free tickets to the show via Facebook, get a passenger ride in a Oakley Design modified Lamborghini Aventador around the Mercedes-Benz World circuit, and one lucky teenager won a ride up the famous hill at Brooklands in a Ferrari 458 Italia.

Brooklands Museum hosted the Auto Italia Italian Car Day this weekend which is the biggest day on the venue’s calendar. To help Auto Italia celebrate the 26 year anniversary of the Italian Car Day Performance Direct ran a number of competitions. This included a chance to win free tickets for the event and a under-18′s competition to win a passenger ride in a Ferrari 458 Italia up the famous hill at Brooklands.
One of our most popular competitions on the day offered the chance to win a passenger lap in the Oakley Design modified Lamborghini Aventador around the Mercedes-Benz World track. As standard the car is capable of 217mph and 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds but the Oakley Design modified car is faster. Amongst the thousands of entries received during the show, the winner, John, was drawn at random by the lovely Performance Direct Promo Girls.

Mercedes 300slr has swing axles, just like a lot of other 1950's/1960's car's. Perhaps that what caught out a younger driver who's unaware of the consequences of lifting off the throttle at speed on a corner?

'Put it on a pedestal'
Way off the mark there. You were obviously WAY out your depth!! These cars were made to drive and be driven hard, they are still raced today and still take a hammering, all in their stride.
There is no other classic of its age that can take the abuse a 300SL takes, phenominal cars and probably the best of all time.
Jaguar and Ferrari were using race bred technology in their cars, Mercedes took the engine/gearbox and driveline from their saloon car, took on the world and trounced them all!!
Only Mercedes could do that!!

Reference rolling a Gullwing.
It didn't happen to me but I tried driving one over 30 years ago and found it a terrifying experience. The steering, brakes and tyres of the mid-50s could not cope and being cooped up in the cabin with pedals so close together and heaving the massive steering wheel about inches from your face with all the noise and rattles did not thrill me at all.
Still a great looking car; polish it up and put it on a pedestal. Maybe glide it around a smooth track, but stay off public roads.
